Community gives Bike Works a helping hand

Weeks after thieves stole more than a dozen bicycles from Bike Works, viewers and readers have stepped up to get kids who rely on the program back on track.

The non-profit organization helps keep kids off the streets by teaching them the bicycle building trade.

After the thefts were reported, private citizens and local police donated twice the number of bikes that were stolen.

"It makes us all feel really great," said program coordinator Muuqi Maxwell. "All the kids are super excited. I mean this whole thing has turned into a positive situation for us, and we're just super happy."

Bike Words is always willing to accept bikes and donations. You can make a donation at 3709 S. Ferdinand St. or call them at 206-725-9408.
